Strategic Projects in Uganda

Providing Economic Opportunities for Refugees

Funded by the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office,  in partnership with Mercy Corps, we empower South Sudanese refugees and their host communities to start sustainable micro-enterprises in three refugee settlements in Uganda’s West Nile Region: Rhino Camp, Bidibidi, and Palorinya.

Reducing Illegal Wildlife Trade

Funded by the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), Village Enterprise joined a consortium led by the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), with the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the Wildlife Conservation Society, the Uganda Conservation Foundation, and other local NGOs to tackle illegal wildlife trade. In this four-year project, Village Enterprise is implementing a sustainable alternative livelihood program in Kiryandongo. The objective is to reduce illegal activities such as selling bushmeat, timber, or ivory by providing an alternative steady income for the rural poor.
